The brothers Johann, a trained master carpenter, and Willy Stickling, a businessman by trade, founded a carpentry business in Avenwedde as a partnership under civil law. They produce sewing cabinets and small furniture in a rented hall.
The first production hall goes into operation in Avenwedde. 25 employees concentrate on producing kitchen buffets.
From December 1, 1949, the company was called J. and W. Stickling OHG.
Willy Stickling will now continue to run the branch in Avenwedde under the Wista brand. His brother Johann Stickling remains with the company J. and W. Stickling OHG.
Johann Stickling hands over management responsibility to his sons Heinz and Werner Stickling. In order to further expand production, a new factory with an initial production area of 7,000 square meters is being built on a 51,000 square meter site in Verl-Sürenheide to mark the company's 25th anniversary.
Another factory is built in Verl-Kaunitz under the name Dominata. 80 employees concentrate on home furniture production.
Home furniture production is stopped and Dominata is sold. nobilia focuses on the production of fitted kitchens.
With the commissioning of a new hall, the production area in Verl-Sürenheide increases to 105,000 square meters. This also documents the continuation of the innovative and rapid company development on the company's 50th anniversary.
Dr. Günter Scheipermeier takes over as chairman of the board. A few months earlier, on May 15, 1999, Heinz Stickling died as a result of an accident.

Sustainability is very important at nobilia. This also applies to the issue of greenhouse gas emissions. It is particularly important here to face up to the responsibility that current generations bear towards their descendants and the environment together with other manufacturers. In 2016, the DGM launched the “Climate Pact for the Furniture Industry” and nobilia is a permanent member. In order for the CO2 footprint to be gradually reduced and ideally neutralized, it is important for nobilia to take a pioneering role, publicize this issue and raise public awareness of it.
The furniture in this collection was awarded the highest emission class A in accordance with the award basis for the emissions label of the German Quality Association for Furniture e.V.
The disposal contract with the company RKT Recycling Kontor Transport GmbH & Co. KG has guaranteed since January 1, 2015 that the packaging collected is processed and all requirements of the Packaging Ordinance are met.
